Knowledge to Transform Your Medical Practice

Case Study: Dr. SY Did the Credentialing

By Admin

case study physician credentialing

SY handled credentialing for a practice for several years but has recently retired from the practice. All of the recredentialing notifications went through SY’s office, primarily through her email address. When a new employee was hired to replace SY, no one forwarded her emails to a new active account. Because of this error, recredentialing for a major insurance company expired for one of the practice’s providers. This caused loss of revenue, significant stress, and frustration.

Diagnosis:

Lapse in credentialing

Recommendations:

  • Have a protocol for handling all discontinued email accounts that ensure continuity of work
  • Build reminders into the office calendar to periodically check recredentialing status and CME requirements
  • Ensure that more than one person receives the reminders for recredentialing of all kinds
